For her latest project, political artist Mary Ellen Croteau has transformed a collection of used and overlooked caps into her medium of choice for a impressive portrait slightly reminiscent of a Chuck Close painting. By layering some of the smaller colored caps inside of the larger ones, she was able to play with one’s interpretation of color, creating new hues that can be view from a far. Up close, the caps look like nothing more than collection of arbitrarily placed pieces, but as you step back, the view seemingly comes together to form this stunning 8×7 foot self-portrait composition of the artist herself.
