Dutch designer, Floris Wubben, in collaboration with Bauke Fokkema, has put his own spin on “sustainable design” with the construction of this Upside Down chair .  A visual treat, this chair was created through a process of binding and splinting willow tree branches until they gradually grew into the shape of four legs.  The seat and backrest were then cut into the base of the trunk and the whole frame inverted. The vote is still out on whether or not it can be classified as a truly “sustainable design” (we’re still wondering what happened to the rest of the tree!). Sustainable or not, I love it purely for it’s innovative design and form.

I wonder how much weight it could support……
