It’s a cozy yet stylish 500 square feet cabin located on San Juan Island, Washington that was designed by Olson Kundig Architects to be used as a guest cottage and “writers retreat.” Who wouldn’t be inspired when staying here? With panoramic framed views allowing natural light to stream through, the contemporary styled design features a single room with an additional kitchenette and bathroom. Though the home owners wanted a space that was open and airy in design, they also needed a way of securing the structure during their times away. Enclosed by wooden slats situated on a hydraulic system of wires, ropes and lead blocks, the addition makes for a deck and outdoor lounging area when open, and a security feature when closed. Talk about versatility!
